Martiño Rivas López was born on January 10, 1985. His hometown is Vimianzo, in Galicia, Spain. His father, Manuel Rivas, is a well-known writer and journalist. His mother is María Isabel López Mariño.
Martiño finished high school in London, England. After that, he studied audiovisual communications at the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. He can speak three languages: Spanish, Galician, and English.
Acting Career
Martiño started acting when he was a child in 1998. His first TV show was Mareas vivas (Live Tides). This show was made in the Galician language. In 2005, he appeared in another Galician show called Maridos e mulleres (Husbands And Wives).
He became more widely known in 2006. He played Moisés in the TV series SMS. From 2007 to 2010, Martiño played Marcos Novoa Pazos in El internado (The Boarding School). This role made him very popular around the world.
Martiño's first big movie role was in The Blind Sunflowers (2008). He acted alongside famous Spanish actors Javier Cámara and Maribel Verdú. For this movie, he was nominated for a Goya Award for Best New Actor. The next year, he was in a short film called Universos (Universes).
From 2010 to 2011, Martiño studied acting in London. He went to the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. In 2011, he acted on stage for the first time in a play called Dracula. He played the character Jonathan Harker. He also starred in the TV series El don de Alba (Alba's Gift).
