Martiño Rivas López (born on January 10, 1985), also known as Martín Rivas, is an actor from Spain. He is famous for playing Marcos Novoa Pazos in the TV show The Boarding School. He also starred in the movie The Blind Sunflowers, which got him nominated for a special award called the Goya Award for Best New Actor. From 2017 to 2020, he was in the Netflix series Cable Girls as a character named Carlos Cifuentes.

Martiño Rivas López was born on January 10, 1985. His hometown is Vimianzo, in Galicia, Spain. His father, Manuel Rivas, is a well-known writer and journalist. His mother is María Isabel López Mariño.

Martiño finished high school in London. After that, he studied communications at the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. He can speak three languages very well: Spanish, Galician, and English.

Becoming an Actor

Martiño started acting when he was a child in 1998. His first role was in a TV show called Mareas vivas (which means Live Tides). This show was made in the Galician language. In 2005, he appeared in another Galician show called Maridos e mulleres (Husbands And Wives).

He became more widely known in 2006. He got a role as Moisés in the TV series SMS. He acted alongside other young stars like Yon González and Amaia Salamanca.

From 2007 to 2010, Martiño played Marcos Novoa Pazos in The Boarding School. This show made him very popular around the world.

Movies and Stage Work

Martiño made his first movie in 2008. It was called The Blind Sunflowers. He acted with famous actors like Javier Cámara and Maribel Verdú. This role earned him a nomination for the Goya Award for Best New Actor. The next year, he was in a short film called Universos (Universes).

From 2010 to 2011, Martiño studied acting in London. He went to the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. He earned a special degree in Classical Acting. In 2011, he performed on stage for the first time in a play called Dracula. He played the character Jonathan Harker. He also starred in the TV series El don de Alba (Alba's Gift).

One of his biggest roles was as Carlos Cifuentes in the Netflix series Cable Girls. The first season came out in April 2017. The show finished its fifth season in 2020.

Other Activities

In 2007, Martiño helped a charity called Childhood Without Limits Foundation. He worked with his co-stars Yon González and Marta Torné to support this cause.

In 2010, Martiño became a representative for a Spanish fashion designer named Purificación García. He appeared in their advertising campaigns. He also posed for a famous calendar called Larios de la Moda that same year.
