Martin Bulloch was born in Bellshill, a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Before becoming a full-time musician, he worked as a cook in a Chinese restaurant in East Kilbride. Martin uses a special device called a pacemaker. This device helps his heart beat regularly. Because of this, he was jokingly called "bionic" on the album Mogwai Young Team.
