Martin Henderson (born October 8, 1974) is an actor from New Zealand. He is well-known for playing Dr. Ben Keeton in the TV show Off the Map (2011) and Dr. Nathan Riggs in Grey's Anatomy (2015–2017). He also stars as Jack Sheridan in the Netflix romantic drama Virgin River (2019–present). Many people also remember him as Noah Clay from the 2002 horror movie The Ring. In New Zealand, he is famous for his early role as Stuart Neilson in the soap opera Shortland Street (1992–1995).

Early Life and School
Martin Henderson was born in Auckland, New Zealand. His parents, Ian and Veronica Henderson, divorced when he was five years old. He started acting when he was 13. His first role was in a local TV show called Strangers.
He went to Birkenhead Primary, Northcote Intermediate, and Westlake Boys High. He was also a good rugby player. His team even won championships in 1990 and 1991. When he was 17, he decided to focus on acting instead of going to university.
Becoming an Actor
Starting Out in New Zealand and Australia
In 1992, when Martin was 17, he got a big role in the New Zealand TV show Shortland Street. He played the character Stuart Neilson until 1995. This show became one of New Zealand's longest-running dramas.
After Shortland Street, he lived in Australia for three years. During this time, he appeared in several Australian movies and TV shows. These included Echo Point and Home and Away.
Moving to Hollywood
In 1997, Martin moved to the United States to try acting in Hollywood films. He also trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City. To help pay for his acting classes, he worked at night as a food runner in a restaurant.
He later moved to Los Angeles. In 1999, he appeared in the movie Kick. For this role, he was nominated for an award in Australia. After trying out for many roles, he finally got a part in the war film Windtalkers in 2001.
In 2002, Martin starred with Naomi Watts in the horror movie The Ring. This movie was very popular. After that, he got more lead roles. He starred in the biker film Torque in 2004. Later that year, he was in the romantic film Bride and Prejudice. He also appeared in Britney Spears' music video for her song "Toxic".
In 2005, he was in the movie Little Fish with Cate Blanchett. In 2006, he performed in a play called Fool for Love in London, which got great reviews.
He also appeared in the movie Flyboys in 2006. Later, he was in an episode of the TV show House called "Painless".
In 2010, Martin was cast in the TV series Off the Map, where he played a doctor from New Zealand. In 2014, he starred in the Australian TV show Secrets & Lies and the drama series The Red Road.
In 2015, Martin appeared in the movie Everest. In June of that year, he joined the cast of Grey's Anatomy. He played Dr. Nathan Riggs, a character who became a love interest for the main character, Meredith Grey. He left the show in 2017. In 2016, he starred in the film Miracles from Heaven with Jennifer Garner.
Since 2019, Martin Henderson has been starring in the Netflix series Virgin River. He plays Jack Sheridan, a former marine. The show has been very popular and was renewed for more seasons. In 2022, he also appeared in the horror film X.
