Marvel Loch is a small community. Fewer than 100 people live there. It is about 32 kilometers (20 miles) southwest of Southern Cross. You can find it along the Great Eastern Highway. This highway connects Perth to Kalgoorlie.

The Town's Name

The town got its name from a famous horse. This horse was also named Marvel Loch. It won the Caulfield Cup horse race in 1905. This was a big event in horse racing.

History of Marvel Loch

Gold was found in this area in the early 1890s. This discovery brought many people to the region. They hoped to find their fortune.

Early Gold Mining

In 1906, some people received special permits. These permits allowed them to mine for gold. Their names were Markham, Doolette, Leneberg, and Le Breton. They named their mining area "Marvel Loch."

Building the Town

The current town area was planned in 1909. The government officially recognized the town in 1911. It was built between two mining sites.

Community Efforts

In 1909, the Marvel Loch Progress Association was formed. This group worked to get a school for the children. They built the first school around 1910. It had walls made of lime-washed hessian. The roof was iron, and the poles were from local bushes.

By 1911, more children were attending the school. This led to a bigger building being built that same year. The community worked together to make the town better.

Gold Mining Today

Today, Tianye SXO Gold Mining operates the Marvel Loch Gold Mine. They have a special plant near the town. This plant processes gold ore from their mines. These mines include Nevoria and Aquarius.

The plant was expected to produce a lot of gold. In 2015, it was projected to make 200,000 ounces (about 5.7 metric tons) of gold. Gold mining is still a very important part of the town's economy.

Farming in the Area

The land around Marvel Loch is also used for farming. Farmers grow wheat and other cereal crops here. These crops are important for food production.

The town has a special site for grain. It is a receival site for Cooperative Bulk Handling. This means farmers can bring their harvested grain here. It is then stored and transported.
