Mary-Louise Parker (born August 2, 1964) is a talented American actress. She is well-known for her work in movies, TV shows, and plays. Mary-Louise first became famous on Broadway in 1990 for her role in Prelude to a Kiss. She was even nominated for a Tony Award for this play.
Later, she starred in many popular films like Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), The Client (1994), and Bullets Over Broadway (1994). In 2001, she won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her amazing performance in Proof. She also won a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy Award for her role in the TV miniseries Angels in America in 2003.
Mary-Louise Parker gained even more fame as Nancy Botwin in the TV series Weeds, which ran from 2005 to 2012. Early life and education
Mary-Louise Parker was born in Columbia, South Carolina. She was the youngest of four children. Her father, John Morgan Parker, was a judge in the U.S. Army. Because of her father's job, Mary-Louise lived in many different places as a child. She spent time in South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas in the U.S. She also lived in other countries like Thailand, Germany, and France.
She graduated from Marcos de Niza High School in Tempe, Arizona. Mary-Louise then studied drama at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She graduated from there in 1986.
Acting career highlights
Mary-Louise Parker started her acting journey with a role in the TV show Ryan's Hope. In the late 1980s, she moved to New York to pursue her acting dreams.
Starting on stage and screen
In 1990, Mary-Louise made her big debut on Broadway in the play Prelude to a Kiss. She played the main character, Rita. Her performance was highly praised, and she was nominated for a Tony Award.
She then moved into films, starring in Grand Canyon (1991) and the popular movie Fried Green Tomatoes (1991). She also appeared in The Client (1994) with Susan Sarandon. In 1995, she acted alongside Drew Barrymore and Whoopi Goldberg in Boys on the Side.

Mary-Louise Parker has two children. Her son, William Atticus Parker, was born in 2004. In 2007, she adopted a baby girl named Caroline Aberash Parker from Ethiopia.
She lives in Brooklyn Heights with her children. Mary-Louise is also involved in charity work. In 2013, she was honored for her support of Hope North. This organization helps young victims of civil war in Uganda by providing education and healing. She also supports the David Lynch Foundation, which helps veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder.
