Mary Jackson (born November 22, 1910 – died December 10, 2005) was an American actress. She worked for almost 50 years, mostly on television. Mary was famous for playing Emily Baldwin in the TV show The Waltons. She was also considered for the role of Alice Horton in Days of Our Lives. However, another actress, Frances Reid, got that part.

About Mary Jackson's Life

Early Life and Education

Mary Jackson was born in Milford, Michigan, on November 22, 1910. She went to Western Michigan University. In 1932, she earned her bachelor's degree there.

After college, Mary worked as a schoolteacher for one year. This was during the Great Depression, a tough economic time. But she really wanted to act.

Starting Her Acting Career

Mary went back to college to study fine arts. She enrolled at Michigan State University. Soon after, she started acting in plays during the summer. These were called summer stock theatre productions.

In the 1950s, Mary began her television career. This was in New York City. It was a special time known as the "Golden Age of Television." Later, in the 1960s, she moved to Hollywood to work in movies and TV shows.

Stage and Screen Roles

Mary Jackson acted in many popular plays on Broadway. Some of these included "Kiss and Tell." She also performed in "Eastward in Eden." She even filled in for famous actress Wendy Hiller twice.

Mary toured around the country in plays like "Apple of His Eye." She also performed with well-known actors such as Edward Arnold. She was part of a play by Tennessee Williams called "Garden District." Mary also acted with Shirley Booth in "The Desk Set." Later, she was a guest star on Shirley Booth's TV show, Hazel.

Community and Family Life

Mary always felt connected to her hometown in Michigan. She helped start the Milford Historical Society. In 1988, she helped raise money for a bridge. This bridge connected Milford to its oldest burial ground.

Mary Jackson passed away on December 10, 2005. She was 95 years old. She died from Parkinson's disease in Los Angeles. She was buried in her hometown of Milford. Mary was married to Griffin Bancroft Jr. for 68 years. They got married on July 4, 1937.
