Mary Lemon Waller (born Mary Lemon Fowler) (1851–1931) was a talented British artist. She was known for painting portraits, especially pictures of children.
About Mary Lemon Waller
Mary Lemon was born in 1851. Her father was Rev. Hugh Fowler. She started learning art at a school in Gloucester. Later, she studied at the Royal Academy Schools. This was a very important art school in London.
Mary began showing her paintings when she was only 20 years old. She displayed her work at the Royal Academy almost every year from 1877 to 1904. In 1874, she married another painter named Samuel Edmund Waller. They lived in London and had one son.
Mary Lemon Waller's art was shown around the world. In 1893, her paintings were part of the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, USA. This was a huge world's fair where countries showed off their achievements. In 1925, she became a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. This was a special group for artists who were very good at painting portraits.
You can still see Mary Lemon Waller's paintings today. Some of her works are in places like Cragside, Royal Hallamshire Hospital, and Oxford University Museum of Natural History in the United Kingdom.
