Maryann Brandon facts for kids
Maryann Brandon is a talented American film and television editor. She is known for working closely with director J. J. Abrams. An editor helps shape a movie or TV show by choosing the best shots and putting them together to tell a story.
Maryann has received special awards for her work. She was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for her editing on the TV series Alias. This popular show was created by J. J. Abrams. Maryann also helped produce Alias during its final season.
She has edited almost all of J. J. Abrams' films. Often, she works with another editor named Mary Jo Markey. One big movie she edited was Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which came out in 2015. For her amazing work on that film, she was nominated for an Academy Award (also known as an Oscar) for Best Film Editing. She shared this nomination with Mary Jo Markey.
When Maryann was editing Abrams' movie Star Trek, something funny happened. She and her co-editor were not told that the director planned to use a lot of bright lights and "lens flares." Lens flares are bright circles or streaks of light that appear in a camera's image. At first, they thought the film looked too bright. They even called the film developers to ask why the movie seemed overexposed!
