Masagua is a town and a municipality in the Escuintla department of Guatemala. A municipality is like a local government area that includes a main town and the surrounding smaller villages or rural areas. In 2018, the town of Masagua had about 16,797 people living there. The entire municipality had a population of 45,323 people.
In 2008, a very large power plant started being built in Masagua. This plant belongs to a company called Jaguar Energy.
Jaguar Energy Power Plant
Jaguar Energy owns a big power plant in Masagua. This plant is located in a place called Tierra Colorada, near the San Miguel Las Flores community. It is about 25 kilometers (15 miles) away from Puerto de San José, which is a port city.
This power plant uses coal to make electricity. It started being built in early 2008. The company spent about US$750 million to build it. The plant is designed to create 300 megawatts of electricity. This electricity is then sold to Energuate, which is the biggest power company in Guatemala. Energuate is part of a British investment company called ACTIS.

Masagua has a tropical savanna climate. This type of climate means it is usually hot all year round. It also has a wet season and a dry season.

Where is Masagua Located?
Masagua is located about 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the city of Escuintla. It is one of the municipalities that are completely inside the Escuintla Department.
