Masahiro Koga (古賀 正紘, Koga Masahiro, born September 8, 1978) is a former Japanese football player. He was a defender who played for several teams in Japan. His younger brother, Seiji, also became a football player.
Masahiro Koga's Club Journey
Masahiro Koga started his professional football career in 1997. He joined the team Nagoya Grampus Eight right after high school. He quickly became a key player, often playing as a center back. With Nagoya Grampus Eight, he helped the team win the Emperor's Cup in 1999.
In 2007, Masahiro moved to Kashiwa Reysol. He continued to be a regular player there. However, an injury in 2010 caused him to lose his spot on the team. Later that year, in August 2010, he joined Júbilo Iwata. He played for Júbilo Iwata for two seasons.
After his time with Júbilo Iwata, Masahiro Koga moved to Avispa Fukuoka in 2012. This was a special move for him, as Avispa Fukuoka was his local club. He played there until the end of the 2015 season, when he decided to retire from professional football. Throughout his career, Masahiro played in over 400 professional matches.
Playing for Japan's National Teams
Masahiro Koga also represented Japan in youth international tournaments. In August 1995, he was chosen to play for the Japan U-17 national team. He played in all three matches at the 1995 FIFA U-17 World Championship. This was a big event where young players from around the world competed.
Two years later, in June 1997, he was selected for the Japan U-20 national team. This team participated in the 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship. Although he was part of the squad, he did not get to play in any of the matches during that tournament.
