Masataka Imai (今井 雅隆, Imai Masataka, born April 2, 1959) is a former Japanese football player and manager. He was born in Shizuoka, Japan, on April 2, 1959. Masataka Imai played as a goalkeeper during his playing career. After he stopped playing, he became a football manager for several teams.

Playing Career
Playing for Honda FC
Masataka Imai started his professional football journey after finishing university. He joined a team called Honda in 1982. He played as a goalkeeper for this team. During his time at Honda, he played in 115 games in the Japan Soccer League. He was a dedicated player for eight years. Masataka Imai stopped playing professional football in 1990.
Futsal Experience
In 1989, Masataka Imai also played for the Japan national futsal team. Futsal is a version of football played on a smaller field, usually indoors. He was chosen to represent Japan in the 1989 FIFA Futsal World Championship. This big tournament was held in the Netherlands.
Coaching Career
Early Coaching Years
Masataka Imai began his coaching career while still playing. In 1989, he became a playing manager for Honda. This meant he was both a player and a coach at the same time. He continued in this role until 1992.
Managing National Teams
After his time at Honda, Imai started managing national teams. In 2001, he became the manager for the Philippines national team. He helped guide their players. From 2003 to 2004, he managed the Macau national team.
Coaching in Japan
Masataka Imai also coached several teams back in Japan. In 2002, he joined Avispa Fukuoka as their manager. Later, in 2007, he signed with Tokushima Vortis. Most recently, from 2020 to 2022, he managed Azul Claro Numazu.
