Masato Morishige (森重 真人, Morishige Masato, born 21 May 1987) is a professional footballer from Japan. He plays as a centre-back, which is a defensive position. He is also the captain for his current club, FC Tokyo.

Masato Morishige's Football Journey

Masato Morishige started his football journey in youth teams. He played for Sanfrecce Hiroshima from 2000 to 2002. After that, he continued playing football at Hiroshima Minami High School until 2005.

His professional career began in 2006 when he joined Oita Trinita. He played there for four seasons, until 2009. In 2010, he moved to FC Tokyo, where he has been playing ever since. He has played many games for FC Tokyo and is a very important player for the team.

Playing for Japan

Masato Morishige has represented Japan in international football.

Youth National Teams

In July 2007, Morishige was chosen to play for the Japan U20 national team. He played in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup as a defensive midfielder. He played three matches in this tournament.

In August 2008, he was selected for the Japan U23 national team. He played in the 2008 Summer Olympics. He played all three matches as a defender in this competition.

Senior National Team

Morishige also played for the main Japan national team from 2013 to 2017. He played 41 matches and scored 2 goals for his country.
