Maskell is a small village located in Dixon County, Nebraska, in the United States. It is part of the larger Sioux City metropolitan area, which includes parts of IA and SD.

In 2020, the village had a population of 58 people. Maskell is famous for reportedly having the smallest city hall in the entire United States!

History of Maskell

Maskell was officially planned and settled in 1907. This happened when the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway extended its train tracks to this spot.

There are two different stories about how Maskell got its name. One story says it was named after John Maskell, who was an early settler in the area. Another story suggests it was named after A. H. Maskell. He owned land nearby and was the sheriff of Dixon County at the time.
