Mason is a small town located in Effingham County, Illinois, United States. It is a place where people live together and have their own local government. In 2020, about 323 people lived there.
The town got its name from Roswell Mason. He was an important person who worked for the Illinois Central Railroad, which built train tracks in the area. Mason is also part of the larger Effingham area, which includes nearby towns and communities.

A big highway called Interstate 57 also crosses the edge of Mason. However, the closest places to get on or off this highway are in Edgewood or about 4 miles northeast at Exit 151. Using Interstate 57, you can travel about 14 miles north to Effingham, which is the main city of the county. You can also go about 55 miles southwest to Mount Vernon.
