A Look Back: Edgewood's History
Edgewood started in the 1850s. This was when the railroad tracks were built to reach this spot. The village got its name because it was right at the edge of a big forest. Imagine a town growing up next to the woods! A post office opened in Edgewood in 1858. This meant people could send and receive letters, which was a big deal back then.

Interstate 57 also crosses the northwest part of Edgewood. You can get on or off I-57 at Exit 145 (Iowa Street). This interstate leads northeast about 16 miles (26 km) to Effingham. It goes southwest about 28 miles (45 km) to Salem.
