Mass City (also known as Mass) is a small community in Ontonagon County, Michigan. It is not a city with its own government. Instead, it is an unincorporated community. You can find Mass City in Greenland Township. It is located along M-26, which is about 13.5 miles (21.7 km) southeast of the village of Ontonagon. Mass City's History
Mass City was first settled in 1848. A person named Noel Johnson discovered copper there. He later sold the copper deposits to the Mass Mining Company. The community was officially started in 1855. It was named "Mass City" because of the large amounts of copper found there.
The first location of Mass City was left in 1899. That year, Abram and Nellie Mathews planned out the current spot. A post office opened in Mass City on June 15, 1899. Christ P. Anderson was the first postmaster.

This small community is located in Greenland Township. It is in Ontonagon County. The area is in the foothills of the Porcupine Mountains. Mass City is surrounded by lots of natural forests and wildlife. You can explore these areas on the Courtney Lake/Old Grade Ski Trail. This trail goes through parts of the Ottawa National Forest.
