Massie Creek has been known by a few different names over time. Some of these include "Massas Creek," "Masses Creek," and "Masseys Creek." The most likely reason for its name is to honor an early settler in the area.

It is believed that the creek was named after a person called Peter Massie. He was one of the first people to settle in this region. Naming natural features like creeks after important early settlers was a common practice.
