Matthew 1:20 is the twentieth verse in the first chapter of the Gospel of Matthew. This book is part of the New Testament in the Bible. This verse tells an important part of the story of Jesus' birth.
Before this verse, Joseph learned that Mary was going to have a baby. Joseph was engaged to Mary. He was worried and thought about quietly ending their engagement. But then, something special happened.

Joseph's Worries

The Dream and Reassurance

The angel told Joseph not to be afraid. He said Joseph should go ahead and marry Mary. The angel explained that the baby Mary was carrying was from the Holy Spirit. This meant the baby was a gift from God. This message helped Joseph understand God's plan. It reassured him that everything was happening for a special reason.
