Christian Bible part | New Testament |
Matthew 2:5 is the fifth verse in the second chapter of the Gospel of Matthew. This book is part of the New Testament in the Christian Bible. This verse is important because it tells us where Jesus was expected to be born.
What Matthew 2:5 Explains
This verse is part of a story about the Magi, also known as the Wise Men. These Wise Men had traveled a long way because they saw special signs in the sky. They believed these signs meant a new "King of the Jews" had been born.
The Wise Men and King Herod
When the Wise Men arrived, they went to King Herod. Herod was the ruler of Judea at that time. He was worried about a new king. He asked the Wise Men to find out where this new king was.
Finding the Birthplace
Herod then called together the main Jewish religious leaders. He asked them where the Messiah, the promised King, was supposed to be born. In Matthew 2:5, these leaders tell Herod the answer. They said the new king would be born in Bethlehem in Judea. They knew this because it was written long ago by a prophet.
