Matthew Dayes (born September 3, 1994) is an American former professional football player. He played as a running back, which is a player who primarily runs with the ball. Matthew played college football for NC State. Later, he was chosen by the Cleveland Browns in the 2017 NFL draft.

Early Life and High School Football
Matthew Dayes grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He went to Cypress Bay High School in Weston, Florida. While there, he played high school football and showed great talent.
College Football Career
Matthew Dayes played college football at NC State from 2013 to 2016. He was a very important player for his team.
In his first year (2013), he had a fantastic start. He ran the ball 63 times for 252 rushing yards. He also scored four touchdowns by running. A touchdown is when a player carries the ball into the opponent's end zone, scoring points. He also caught 10 passes for 173 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.
In 2014, Matthew showed he could do many things on the field. He ran for 573 yards and scored eight rushing touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 321 yards and five receiving touchdowns. He even helped return kicks, running back 21 kicks for 384 yards.
His junior year in 2015 was also strong. He ran for 865 yards and scored 12 rushing touchdowns. He continued to catch passes, adding 24 receptions for 172 yards.
In his final year at NC State (2016), Matthew had his best season. He ran for an impressive 1,166 yards and scored ten rushing touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 271 receiving yards. Overall, he was a key player for NC State throughout his college career.
Professional Football Career
After his successful college career, Matthew Dayes hoped to play in the NFL.
Joining the Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns picked Matthew Dayes in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL draft. He was the 252nd player chosen overall. In May 2017, he signed his first professional contract with the Browns.
During the team's training camp, Matthew worked hard to earn a spot. He competed to be one of the team's main running backs. The Browns' coach, Hue Jackson, named Matthew as the third running back for the team.
Matthew played his first NFL game on September 10, 2017. In that game, he ran the ball three times for seven yards. He also caught two passes for nine yards. During his first year in the NFL, he had a total of 13 rushing yards and 29 receiving yards.
On September 1, 2018, Matthew Dayes was released by the Browns.
Time with the San Francisco 49ers
