Matthias Strolz, born on June 10, 1973, is a former politician from Austria. He is known for starting a political party called NEOS – The New Austria and Liberal Forum. He was the first leader of this party. He also served as a member of Austria's main parliament, the National Council, from October 29, 2013, to September 26, 2018.

Early Life and Education
Matthias Strolz was born in Bludenz, a town in Vorarlberg, Austria. He grew up in a nearby area called Wald am Arlberg. In 1991, he finished high school at the Bundesgymnasium Bludenz. During his high school years, he was the student council president for Vorarlberg.
After high school, Strolz went to the University of Innsbruck. He studied international economics and political science there. He also spent a semester studying abroad in Dublin, Ireland. While at the university, he became the chairman of the Austrian Students' Association in Innsbruck.
Career Before Politics
Before becoming a full-time politician, Matthias Strolz worked in different fields. In 1997 and 1998, he was a freelance journalist. This means he wrote articles for different publications. A year later, he joined the Austrian Armed Forces.
In 2000, Strolz became a certified business consultant. He also worked as a trainee at the Federation of Austrian Industries. He was a coach and presenter, helping people and groups improve. He also worked for a politician named Karlheinz Kopf. In 2003, he earned his doctorate degree.
Starting a Political Party
Matthias Strolz founded his own company, ic2 consulting GmbH, in 2001. Later, he also managed another company called promitto GmbH. He stopped these business activities in October 2012. This was because he decided to start a new political party.
He founded the political party NEOS. He was chosen as its leader on October 27, 2012. Before the 2013 elections, NEOS teamed up with another party, the Liberal Forum. This partnership helped them get enough votes to enter the National Council.
Time in Parliament
On October 29, 2013, Matthias Strolz officially became a member of the Austrian National Council. In parliament, he was the leader of the NEOS and Liberal Forum group. In January 2014, NEOS and the Liberal Forum officially merged. The new party was named NEOS – The New Austria and Liberal Forum. Strolz was re-elected as the party chairman.
On May 7, 2018, Matthias Strolz announced that he would be stepping down. He resigned as party leader, as the group's leader in parliament, and as a member of parliament.
Personal Life
Matthias Strolz has been married to his wife, Irene, since 2005. They have three daughters together. The family lives in Mauer, which is a part of Vienna, Austria.
