Mauk is a small place in Taylor County, Georgia, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a settled place, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's governed by the county. Mauk is located about 12 kilometers (about 7.5 miles) south of Junction City.
Mauk's History
Mauk has an interesting past! In 1913, the state government of Georgia, called the Georgia General Assembly, officially made Mauk a town. This meant Mauk could have its own local rules and leaders.
However, things changed later. In 1939, the special document that made Mauk a town, called its "municipal charter," was taken away. This meant Mauk went back to being an unincorporated community, governed by Taylor County.
