About Maureen Gruben
Maureen Gruben was born in Tuktoyaktuk. This is a community located in Canada's Arctic region. She studied art at Okanagan College in Kelowna. She received her diploma in Fine Arts in 1990. Later, in 2012, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. This degree was from the University of Victoria.
Art Awards and Recognition
In May 2021, Maureen Gruben received an important recognition. She was chosen for the long list of the annual Sobey Art Award. This award is one of Canada's most important prizes for artists. She was one of five artists from the "Prairies and North" region to be nominated.
Also in 2021, the National Gallery of Canada changed a rule. They used to only include artists who were 40 years old or younger. They removed this age limit. This change allowed Maureen Gruben and other talented artists to have their work shown.
