Mawlud Mukhlis (مولود مخلص) was an important Arab leader, soldier, and politician from Iraq. He was born in Mosul in 1886 and passed away in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1951. He was a strong supporter of Arab independence and played a big part in the history of Iraq. He even led the Iraqi parliament for several years.

Early Life and Military Career

Mawlud Mukhlis began his career as a soldier. He lived during a time when many Arab lands were part of the Ottoman Empire. He joined a group called the Covenant Society around 1914 or 1915. This group wanted Arab people to have their own independent states.

Serving in World War I

During World War I, Mawlud Mukhlis fought in the Ottoman army. He commanded cavalry (soldiers on horseback) in important battles. These included the Battle of Shaiba and the Siege of Kut. These battles took place in Mesopotamia, which is now Iraq.

Joining the Arab Revolt

Later, Mawlud Mukhlis faced difficulties with the Ottoman authorities. He then joined the Arab Revolt. This was a major uprising by Arabs against the Ottoman Empire. The revolt aimed to create independent Arab states.

Key Role in the Arab Revolt

Mawlud Mukhlis showed great bravery during the Arab Revolt. He successfully defended Wadi Musa in 1917. Turkish forces attacked this area, but Mukhlis and his soldiers held their ground. This battle was an important victory for the Arab forces.

Political Life and Leadership

After the Arab Revolt, Mawlud Mukhlis became a close assistant to Faisal. Faisal was a key leader in the Arab Revolt and later became King of Iraq. Mukhlis served Faisal during the time of the Arab Kingdom of Syria.

Becoming a Governor

From 1919 to 1920, Mawlud Mukhlis served as the governor of Zor. A governor is like a leader of a specific region or province. He later became the governor of Karbala in 1923.

In Iraqi Politics

Mawlud Mukhlis also took part in the Iraqi revolt of 1920. This was a rebellion against British rule in Iraq. In 1925, King Faisal appointed him to the Senate of Iraq. The Senate is part of the government that helps make laws.

He continued his political career by winning a seat in the Iraqi parliament. He was elected in 1936, 1939, and 1943. From December 1937 to November 1941, he was the head of the Chamber of Deputies of Iraq. This means he led the main part of the Iraqi parliament.

Mawlud Mukhlis dedicated his life to serving his country. He worked to build a strong and independent Iraq.
