Maxime Fortunus was born on July 28, 1983, in La Prairie, Quebec, Canada. He is a Canadian ice hockey player who used to play professionally as a defenceman. A defenceman is a player whose main job is to stop the other team from scoring goals. Maxime's parents were born in Haiti before they moved to Canada in the 1970s. He recently retired from playing and is now a coach.

Playing Ice Hockey
Maxime Fortunus started playing hockey when he was young. Before joining a major junior league, he played Midget AAA hockey. He was chosen by the Baie-Comeau Drakkar team in the 1999 QMJHL Midget Draft.
Junior Hockey Years
Maxime played junior ice hockey for the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He played there from 1999 to 2003. After his time in junior hockey, he became a professional player.
Starting Professional Hockey
Maxime began his professional career with the Louisiana IceGators in the ECHL. He then played many games in the American Hockey League (AHL). He played for teams like the Houston Aeros, the Manitoba Moose, and the Texas Stars. He played over 700 games in the AHL, which is a lot!
Playing in the NHL
On July 3, 2008, Maxime signed a contract with the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL). The NHL is the top ice hockey league in North America. During the 2009–10 season, he played some games for the Dallas Stars. He also played for their main AHL team, the Texas Stars, where he was a regular player. He signed another deal with the Dallas Stars on July 13, 2012.
Later Career and Retirement
After playing for the Stars organization for six seasons, Maxime joined the Iowa Wild on July 1, 2015. This team is linked to the Minnesota Wild. Later, in November 2017, he joined the Springfield Thunderbirds for a tryout. He played 54 games for them.
After 15 years playing in the AHL, Maxime decided to play overseas. In May 2018, he signed a one-year contract with the Fischtown Pinguins in Germany. This team plays in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), which is Germany's top league.
In May 2021, Maxime Fortunus announced that he was retiring from playing professional hockey. He then returned to the Dallas Stars organization. He became an assistant coach for the Texas Stars in the AHL, the same team he played for before.
