Where is McAlisterville?
McAlisterville is located in the northeastern part of Juniata County. It sits right in the middle of Fayette Township. You can find it at these coordinates: 40.637602 degrees North and -77.274102 degrees West.
Two main roads, PA 35 and PA 235, run through the center of the community. PA 35 goes northeast about 25 miles to Selinsgrove. It also goes southwest about 8 miles to Mifflintown, which is the main town of Juniata County. PA 235 heads north over Shade Mountain about 10 miles to Beaver Springs. It also goes south about 7 miles to Thompsontown.
The community covers an area of about 4.5 square kilometers (1.75 square miles), and all of it is land. McAlisterville is in a valley near a stream called Little Lost Creek. This creek flows into Lost Creek, which then joins the Juniata River.

In 2000, there were 765 people living in McAlisterville. These people lived in 337 households, and 209 of these were families. The community had about 818 people per square mile. There were 366 homes, with about 391 homes per square mile.

Some notable people have connections to McAlisterville:
- Nelson Lauver grew up in McAlisterville. He is a radio personality known for The American Storyteller Radio Journal. He also wrote a book called "Most Unlikely to Succeed."
- Robert W. Ammerman was a soldier in the American Civil War. He received the Medal of Honor for his bravery. He passed away in McAlisterville and is buried there.
- George F. McFarland was an educator who lived in McAlisterville. Before the Civil War, he was the superintendent of the McAlisterville Academy. In 1862, McFarland helped organize local volunteers to join the Union army. He served with honor and led the 151st Pennsylvania Infantry at the famous Battle of Gettysburg.
- Miriam [Smith] Wetzel was crowned Miss Pennsylvania in 1952. She is from McAlisterville. Miriam later became an educator and an author.
