McBain is a small city located in Missaukee County, in the state of Michigan, USA. In 2020, about 637 people lived there. This makes McBain one of the smallest cities in Michigan.

History of McBain
McBain started as a small settlement in 1887. It was built around a sawmill owned by John McBain. A sawmill is a place where logs are cut into lumber.
A train station opened in McBain on August 27, 1888. A post office, first called Owens, opened shortly after on September 10, 1888. The post office was renamed McBain a year later, on September 17, 1889.
McBain officially became a village in 1893. Later, in 1907, it became a city.
Geography and Location
McBain is found in the southwestern part of Missaukee County. It is surrounded by Riverside Township to the east and Richland Township to the west.
The city is about 10 miles (16 km) south of Lake City, which is the main town of the county. It is also about 13 miles (21 km) east-southeast of Cadillac.
The total area of McBain is about 1.26 square miles (3.26 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
