McCoy Creek is a small waterway, also known as a stream, located in the state of Missouri, United States. It flows through parts of St. Charles and Warren counties. McCoy Creek is a tributary to Big Creek, which means it flows into and joins Big Creek.
About McCoy Creek
McCoy Creek starts in the northeastern part of Warren County. The place where a stream begins is called its headwaters. For McCoy Creek, its headwaters are found about two miles northwest of a town called Foristell, near Interstate 70.
Where it Flows
From its starting point, McCoy Creek flows towards the northeast. It crosses under two important roads: Missouri Route W and US Route 61. These crossings happen northwest of the Flint Hill community.
Joining Big Creek
McCoy Creek eventually flows into Big Creek. This meeting point, where two streams join, is called a confluence. McCoy Creek joins Big Creek just a short distance upstream (to the east) from where Big Creek itself joins the Cuivre River.
Name Origin
McCoy Creek was named after two early settlers in the area, Daniel and John McCoy. They were important pioneer citizens who lived in the region a long time ago.
