The Old Mill

Long ago, a special building stood near the falls. It was a mill called Meytre Grist Mill. Fred Meytre built this mill in 1906. A grist mill uses the power of flowing water to grind grain into flour.

The mill worked for many years, helping local farmers. But in 1941, Mr. Meytre became too old to run it. Also, many young men were away serving in World War II. So, the mill stopped working. In 1982, the mill was rebuilt. Now, it is a cool part of the park's history.

To reach the park, take exit 112 from Interstate 40. Drive north until you reach Main Street in Valdese. Turn west on Main Street and go for about 0.8 miles. Then, turn right onto Church Street. Continue north for 1.5 miles. You will see the park entrance on your right. There is a short path that leads right to the falls.
