McIntyre began as a small stop along the Central of Georgia Railway. This railway was very important for moving goods and people across the state. The town was named after Thomas McIntyre, who was an important official for the railroad company. The government of Georgia, called the Georgia General Assembly, officially made McIntyre a town in 1910.
