McKenzie Lake (also known as lac McKenzie in French) is a beautiful lake located in the Timiskaming District of northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is part of a very large water system called the Saint Lawrence River drainage basin. This means all the water from McKenzie Lake eventually flows into the Saint Lawrence River. The lake is about 20 kilometers (12 miles) southwest of a small community called Kenabeek.

About McKenzie Lake

McKenzie Lake is a natural lake in a mostly undeveloped area. It is surrounded by forests and natural landscapes. The lake sits at an elevation of about 309 meters (1,014 feet) above sea level. It is about 2.1 kilometers (1.3 miles) long and 550 meters (1,800 feet) wide.

Where the Water Comes From

McKenzie Lake gets its water from two main sources. These are called inflows.

• One inflow is an unnamed creek that flows into the south side of the lake. This creek comes from a nearby lake called Harebell Lake.
• The second inflow is another unnamed creek that enters the lake from the west side.

Where the Water Goes

The water from McKenzie Lake flows out through one main path. This is called an outflow.

• The primary outflow is an unnamed creek that leaves the lake from the north side.
• This creek then flows into Spray Creek.
• Spray Creek joins Spring Creek.
• Spring Creek then flows into the Montreal River.
• The Montreal River eventually empties into the Ottawa River.
• Finally, the Ottawa River flows into the mighty Saint Lawrence River. This long journey shows how all these waterways are connected!
