Company History
How McLeod Russel Started
The story of McLeod Russel began in 1869. Two Englishmen, Captain J.H. Williamson and Richard Boycott Magor, started a company in Calcutta. This company, called Williamson Magor & Company, helped tea gardens in Assam.
Growth and Leadership
Later, a person named Brij Mohan Khaitan joined the company's board in 1963. He had worked with them for a long time, supplying materials. Mr. B. M. Khaitan became the Managing Director in 1964. He helped the company grow a lot.
Over the next 50 years, McLeod Russel bought many other well-known tea companies. These included Williamson Tea Assam and Doom Dooma Tea Company in India. They also acquired Phu Ben Tea Company in Vietnam.
International Expansion
The company also has a branch in Uganda called McLeod Russel Uganda Limited. This branch grows, makes, and sells tea. It used to be known as James Finlay (Uganda) Limited. This company was started in 1994 and is located in Kampala.
In 2019, Aditya Khaitan, who is B.M. Khaitan's younger son, became the chairman of McLeod Russel.
