Me One (born Eric Martin on August 19, 1970) is a talented musician, rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer from Wales. You might also know him as MC Eric. He became famous for his work with the music group Technotronic.
Discovering Me One
Eric Martin was born in Cardiff, Wales, on August 19, 1970. His parents were from Jamaica. His mother was an English teacher, and his father was a church minister. Eric is the youngest of thirteen children in his family.
He went to school in Cardiff, London, and New York City. He has citizenship in both Jamaica and Britain.
His Music Journey
As MC Eric, Martin joined the music group Technotronic. This group was known for its techno and Eurodance style. He sang the main vocals on their big hit song from 1990, "This Beat Is Technotronic".
At the peak of their success, Technotronic even toured with the famous singer Madonna. This was part of her Blond Ambition World Tour in the 1990s.
Solo Work and Collaborations
In May 2000, Me One released his first solo album. It was called As Far as I'm Concerned and came out on Universal-Island UK. This album had 12 songs.
It featured other artists like Guru from Gang Starr on the song "Do You Know." He also worked with Michelle Gayle on "In My Room." This song used parts of an older song by the Beach Boys. "In My Room" was released as a single, along with "Game Plan" and "Old Fashioned."
Besides his own music, Martin has also written songs for other artists. These include Jeff Beck, Maxi Priest, the Roots, Capleton, Lynden David Hall, and the Sugababes.
Recent Achievements
In 2011, Me One signed a new music deal. He joined Innovation Music, a record label based in Glasgow.
In September 2024, it was announced that Eric Martin would receive a special honor. He was given the Welsh Music Inspiration award at the yearly Welsh Music Prize event.
He now lives in London. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was staying in Newport.
