Meadow Creek is a small, quiet community in Summers County, West Virginia, in the United States. It's not a city or a town with its own local government. Instead, it's an "unincorporated community," which means it's part of a larger county area. Meadow Creek is nestled right by the beautiful New River. It is located southwest of Meadow Bridge and north of Hinton.
About Meadow Creek
Meadow Creek is a lovely spot in West Virginia. It's known for its peaceful setting next to the New River. This river is very old and has carved out a deep gorge over millions of years. The community gets its name from a nearby stream also called Meadow Creek, which flows into the New River.
History of the Community
Even though it's a small place, Meadow Creek has some interesting history. Like many communities in this area, it grew because of the natural resources and the river.
Important Buildings
Two important buildings from Meadow Creek's past are the local church and a former bank.
- Meadow Creek Baptist Church: This church has been a part of the community for a very long time. It was established on October 21, 1878. This means it has been a place for people to gather and worship for over 140 years!
- Sewell Valley Bank: A bank called Sewell Valley Bank opened in Meadow Creek on November 4, 1918. Banks are places where people can keep their money safe and borrow money for things like homes or businesses. This bank served the community for many years. However, it closed down in May of 1932. Its business was then taken over by the First National Bank of Hinton.
Meadow Creek is a part of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve area, which is a national park known for its stunning views and outdoor activities.
