Meadowview is a small community located in Washington County, Virginia, in the United States. It is called a "census-designated place" (CDP), which means it's an area identified by the Census Bureau for counting people. In 2020, about 861 people lived there.

Meadowview is part of a larger area known as the "Tri-Cities" region. This area includes cities like Kingsport and Bristol. Before 2010, Meadowview and a nearby place called Emory were counted together as one CDP. Now, they are listed separately.

History of Meadowview

The quiet community of Meadowview was known as "Meadow View" (two separate words) until the 1930s. Long ago, Native American trails passed close to where the town is now. The first settler to buy land here was James Glenn in 1783.

How Meadowview Got Its Name

There are a couple of ideas about how Meadowview got its name. Some people think it came from an early name for nearby Whitetop Mountain, which was called Meadow Mountain on a map from 1749. Another idea is that William Edmondson named his house Edmondson's Meadow. He loved looking at the many green meadows around his home.

Growth of the Town

Until the railroad arrived in 1856, Meadowview was a very small and remote place. After the train came, the town became a busy center. People set up stockyards and a transportation hub. This allowed them to ship livestock, farm produce, and other goods all over the eastern US. Meadowview stayed busy until the 1950s. Today, it is mostly a residential community where people live.
