Mecapaca Municipality is a special area in Bolivia. It's like a local government district. It is part of the Pedro Domingo Murillo Province in the La Paz Department.
The main town in this area is called Mecapaca. It is about 28 kilometers (17 miles) away from La Paz. La Paz is a very important city in Bolivia. Mecapaca sits high up, about 2,850 meters (9,350 feet) above sea level. In 2012, about 16,027 people lived in the Mecapaca Municipality.

History of Mecapaca
During the time when Spain ruled Bolivia, the valleys of Mecapaca were very popular. Rich people liked to build their big homes there. It was seen as a beautiful and important place.
Geography and Climate
Mecapaca Municipality is located near the edge of the Bolivian Altiplano. This is a high plateau region. The average height of the land here is about 3,700 meters (12,139 feet) above sea level. The Choqueyapu River flows through the area.

Mecapaca is in the southern part of the Murillo province. It shares borders with several other areas:
- To the north, it borders the La Paz municipality.
- To the west, it borders Achocalla.
- To the southwest, it borders Calamarca.
- To the south, it borders Sapahaqui.
- To the east, it borders Palca.
Weather in Mecapaca
The weather in Mecapaca is interesting. It has a "diurnal climate." This means the temperature changes a lot between day and night. These daily changes are bigger than the changes between seasons.
The average temperature for the whole year is about 16°C (61°F). The coldest months are June and July, with temperatures around 14°C (57°F). The warmest month is November, with temperatures near 18°C (64°F). Mecapaca gets about 550 mm (21.6 inches) of rain each year. Most of the rain falls in January. The driest months are from May to August.
Getting to Mecapaca
Mecapaca is about 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) south of La Paz by road. You can drive from La Paz. The road goes through a famous place called the Valley of the Moon. It also passes the town of Mallasa. This road follows the Choqueyapu River until you reach Mecapaca.
