Mecca Gardens is a Roanoke, Virginia neighborhood. It is the most eastern neighborhood within the city limits of Roanoke.
Mecca Gardens shares its borders with several other areas. To the west, it touches the Wildwood neighborhood. To the north, across a road called Orange Avenue, is the Eastgate neighborhood. The town of Vinton is to the south, and Roanoke County is to the east.
A Look Back: The History of Mecca Gardens
Mecca Gardens was once part of Roanoke County. In 1976, the city of Roanoke officially took over the area. This process is called "annexation," which means a city adds land to its own boundaries.
Since the 1970s, Mecca Gardens has grown a lot. It has developed like a typical suburban area, with many homes and businesses. You can find many shops and other businesses along U.S. Route 460, also known as Orange Avenue, which runs through the neighborhood.
