The Wedge: A Tricky Border

"The Wedge" is a strangely shaped area of land. It got its unusual shape because of an old border argument. This argument happened way back in the 1700s. It was between two important families: the Penns and the Calverts.

These families were powerful landowners. They were trying to figure out the exact borders. These borders were for their land in the British North American colonies. The confusion led to "The Wedge" being claimed by two different places.

Who Owns The Wedge?

For a long time, both Pennsylvania and Delaware claimed Mechanicsville. This border dispute lasted for many years. It was a puzzle that needed to be solved.

Finally, in 1921, the problem was settled. A special agreement was made. This agreement decided that Mechanicsville and "The Wedge" would belong to Delaware. Today, this land is officially part of Delaware.
