Mehmet Özhaseki's Early Life and Learning
Mehmet Özhaseki was born in Kayseri, Turkey on May 25, 1957. He started his schooling in Kayseri. Later, he studied electronic engineering at Hacettepe University.
He then continued his education at Istanbul University. There, he studied law.
Mehmet Özhaseki's Political Journey
Becoming Mayor of Kayseri
Mehmet Özhaseki began his political career in local government. In March 1994, he was elected to lead the Melikgazi Municipality.
In 2004, he became the Mayor of Kayseri. He won the election with a large number of votes. Many people believe his success came from running the city very well.
He was re-elected as Mayor of Kayseri in March 2009. This showed that the people of Kayseri trusted him to continue leading their city.
Serving as a Minister
Mr. Özhaseki later became a Member of Parliament (MP) for Kayseri. He was elected in both the June 2015 and November 2015 general elections.
On November 24, 2015, he was chosen to be the Minister of Environment and Urban Planning. This important job meant he helped protect the environment and plan how cities grow. He served in this role under Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım.
He was later replaced by Murat Kurum. However, he was appointed to the same ministry again in 2023. In 2024, Murat Kurum took over the role once more.
