A Look Back in Time
Melcher-Dallas has an interesting past. For a long time, the area was known for its coal mines. Back in 1919, a big coal mine called the Red Rock Coal Company mine was very important. It was the third largest coal mine in Iowa! This mine produced a huge amount of coal that year, and it provided jobs for 345 men.
Originally, Melcher and Dallas were two different cities. But in 1986, they decided to combine and become one city, which is how Melcher-Dallas was formed.
