Early Life and YouTube Fame

Melissa Steel grew up in the city of Bradford. She went to Tong Leadership Academy and was even a classmate of Zayn Malik, who later became famous with the band One Direction. Melissa loved music from a young age. She started performing when she was only seven years old. By age 11, she was already in a studio recording songs she had written herself!

When she was 14, back in 2007, Melissa started posting videos of herself singing on YouTube. She sang covers of popular songs, and people from all over the world loved her voice. By sharing her music on YouTube and Myspace, she built a large online fanbase. At the same time, she kept working hard in the studio and traveling to London to meet people in the music industry.

Her hard work paid off. In 2014, she was signed to a major record label, Atlantic Records UK.

Hitting the Charts

2014 was a huge year for Melissa. In July, she was the featured singer on the song "Way We Are" by the musician Kove. The song was a success and reached number 30 on the UK Singles Chart.

Just a few weeks later, she released her very own first single, "Kisses for Breakfast". The song featured the Jamaican dancehall artist Popcaan and became a big hit. It climbed to number 10 on the UK charts, giving Melissa her first top-ten song.

She also collaborated with the singer Krishane on his song "... and Incapable," which reached number 27 on the UK charts. To top off an amazing year, Melissa was nominated for a MOBO award for "Best Newcomer." She was also chosen for MTV's "Brand New for 2015" list, which highlights artists to watch.

Her success continued when she was featured on the song "I Loved You" by the DJ duo Blonde. It was a massive hit, reaching number 7 in the UK and earning a Platinum certification, which means it sold a very large number of copies. Melissa also got to support the superstar Ariana Grande as an opening act during the UK part of her 'The Honeymoon' tour.
