Melitina Dmitryevna Staniouta (born November 15, 1993) is a retired rhythmic gymnast from Belarus. She is well-known for winning many medals in her career. She earned bronze medals three times at the World Championships (in 2010, 2013, and 2015) in the all-around competition. She also won a silver medal at the European Championships in 2014 and a bronze medal at the European Games in 2015, both in the all-around.

About Melitina Staniouta

Melitina Staniouta is the great-granddaughter of a famous Belarusian actress, Stefaniya Staniouta. Melitina can speak four languages: Belarusian, Russian, English, and French.

In 2020, Melitina spoke out about political events in her home country. She shared information about peaceful protests. She was one of many athletes who publicly shared their thoughts on the election results. Because she spoke out, she and her family faced difficulties, and she moved from her home in Minsk. In 2022, she moved to Kyiv, Ukraine, before a major conflict began there. She has shared her thoughts about the conflict on social media. Since 2022, she has lived near Paris, France, where she coaches rhythmic gymnastics.

Early Gymnastics Career

Melitina Staniouta started rhythmic gymnastics in 1998. In 2005, she began training with Larissa Loukianenko, a former Belarusian rhythmic gymnast. She then joined the national team.

As a junior gymnast, Melitina won several medals. At the 2008 European Junior Championships, she won silver medals in both ribbon and rope events.

Senior Gymnastics Career

2009-2012: First Senior Competitions

Melitina became a senior gymnast in 2009. She won two medals at the 2009 World Championships. She also won a bronze medal in the rope event at the World Cup Series in Pesaro. At the 2009 Grand Prix Final in Berlin, she won an all-around bronze medal.

In 2010, Melitina continued her success. She won an all-around bronze medal at the 2010 World Championships. She also won a bronze in the rope finals. During this competition, she broke her foot but kept competing. After the event, she had surgery and missed several months. She also had other injuries in 2010, including a broken finger, leg, and collarbone. In 2011, she continued to deal with injuries.

In 2012, Melitina competed at the 2012 European Championships, finishing 6th in the all-around. At the World Cup in Minsk, she won bronze medals in hoop, clubs, and ribbon. She competed in her first Olympics at the 2012 London Games. She finished 12th in the qualifying rounds but did not make it to the top 10 finals.

2013: A Strong Comeback

Melitina returned to competition in 2013 with new rules in rhythmic gymnastics. She won a silver medal in the all-around at the first World Cup in Tartu, Estonia. At the Thiais Grand Prix, she won bronze medals in clubs, hoop, and ribbon.

At the World Cup in Lisbon, Portugal, she won silver in ribbon and bronze in clubs. She won her first World Cup all-around gold medal at the 2013 Irina Deleanu Cup. She also won the all-around gold at the 2013 World Cup Pesaro. There, she won three gold medals in the ball, clubs, and ribbon finals. At the 2013 Corbeil-Essonnes World Cup, she won silver in the all-around. She also won silver in ball and bronze in clubs. At the 2013 Minsk World Cup, she won all-around bronze in front of her home crowd. She also won two gold medals in clubs and ribbon.

Melitina competed at the 2013 European Championships in Vienna, Austria. With her teammates, she won the Team bronze medal. She also won bronze in the hoop and clubs finals. In July, she won silver in hoop at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan. At the 2013 World Games in Cali, she won two gold medals in clubs and ball. In August, at the 2013 World Cup in St. Petersburg, Russia, she won silver in the all-around. She also won bronze medals in hoop and clubs.

At the 2013 World Championships in Kyiv, Ukraine, Melitina won bronze medals in ribbon and ball. She finished with an all-around bronze medal. In October, she won bronze in the all-around at the 2013 Grand Prix Brno. She also won silver in clubs and bronze in hoop, ball, and ribbon. At the 2013 Aeon Cup in Tokyo, Japan, she won team silver with her club. She also won silver in the all-around finals.

2014: European Silver Medal

Melitina started 2014 by winning all-around gold at LA Lights. She finished seventh in the all-around at the 2014 Moscow Grand Prix and won a bronze medal in ball. At the 2014 Thiais Grand Prix, she finished sixth in the all-around and won a gold medal in ribbon. She competed at the 2014 Stuttgart World Cup, finishing fourth all-around. She won silver in ball and three bronze medals in hoop, clubs, and ribbon.

Melitina then won silver in the all-around at the 2014 Lisboa World Cup. She won gold in hoop and silver in ball. At the 2014 Pesaro World Cup, she finished eighth all-around and won bronze in clubs. In May, she won all-around gold at the 2014 Kalamata Cup. At the 2014 Tashkent World Cup, she finished fifth all-around. She won three silver medals (hoop, clubs, ribbon) and a bronze in ball. In her next event, she won all-around silver at the 2014 Minsk World Cup. She won gold in ribbon and two bronzes in clubs and ball.

From June 10-15, Melitina competed at the 2014 European Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. She won silver in the individual all-around. This was the first all-around medal for a Belarusian gymnast in 14 years. From August 8-10, she competed at the 2014 Sofia World Cup, finishing fourth all-around. She won silver in hoop and ribbon.

From September 5-7, at the 2014 World Cup in Kazan, Melitina took the all-around bronze medal. She won two silver medals (clubs, ribbon) and a bronze in ball. From September 22-28, Melitina represented Belarus at the 2014 World Championships. Her team won the silver medal. She won bronze in ball. In the all-around, she finished seventh.

From October 17-19, Melitina competed at the 2014 Aeon Cup in Tokyo. Her team won the silver medal. She won the all-around bronze medal.

2015: More Medals and Personal Best

In 2015, Melitina started her season at the 2015 L.A. Lights, winning all-around silver. At the 2015 Moscow Grand Prix, she won all-around bronze. She won gold in clubs and silver in hoop and ball. She then won all-around gold at the 2015 Baltic Hoop. She took gold in hoop, silver in clubs, and bronze in ribbon.

From April 3-5, Melitina competed at the 2015 Bucharest World Cup, finishing all-around bronze. She won bronze in hoop, ball, and ribbon. From April 10-12, she placed fifth all-around at the 2015 Pesaro World Cup. She took silver in ball and bronze in hoop and ribbon.

At the 2015 European Championships in Minsk, Melitina won five medals: silver in the team event, hoop, and ribbon, and bronze in clubs and ball. At the 2015 Grand Prix Berlin, she won all-around silver. She won gold in ribbon and bronze in hoop, ball, and clubs.

From June 15-21, Melitina competed at the first 2015 European Games. She won all-around bronze with a personal best score. She took silver in hoop and bronze in ball and clubs. Her next competition was at the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju, Korea. She won all-around bronze. She won gold in ribbon, silver in clubs, and bronze in hoop.

In August, Melitina competed at the 2015 Budapest World Cup. She won all-around bronze. She won bronze in hoop, ball, and clubs. At the 2015 Sofia World Cup, she finished 4th all-around. She won silver in ball and bronze in hoop. At the 2015 World Cup in Kazan, she finished 4th all-around. She took bronze in ball and ribbon.

From September 9-13, Melitina competed at the 2015 World Championships in Stuttgart. Team Belarus won the silver medal. Melitina won bronze in ball. In the all-around finals, she finished third, winning the bronze medal. From October 2-4, Melitina competed at the 2015 Aeon Cup in Tokyo, Japan. She finished fourth in the individual all-around. Team Belarus finished third overall.

2016: Olympic Performance and Retirement

In 2016, Melitina started her season at the 2016 Grand Prix Moscow, finishing 5th all-around. She also took a bronze in clubs. From February 26-28, she competed at the 2016 Espoo World Cup, where she was 4th all-around. She won bronze in clubs and ribbon.

From March 12-13, Melitina competed at the MTM Tournament in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She won all-around silver. She won gold in ball and silver in hoop, clubs, and ribbon. At the 30th Thiais Grand Prix in Paris, she won all-around bronze. She won silver in ribbon and three more bronze medals in hoop, ball, and clubs. From April 1-3, she competed at the 2016 Pesaro World Cup, finishing sixth all-around. She took bronze in ball.

From May 6-8, Melitina competed at the Brno Grand Prix, taking silver in the all-around. She won silver in ball and clubs and bronze in hoop. From May 13-15, she won all-around gold at the Bucharest Grand Prix. She took gold in hoop, ball, and ribbon.

She won bronze in the all-around at the 2016 Minsk World Cup. She won silver in hoop and two bronze medals in ball and clubs. From June 3-5, she finished 5th all-around at the 2016 Guadalajara World Cup. She won silver in ribbon.

From June 17-19, Melitina competed at the 2016 European Championships and finished 4th. Two weeks later, she performed at the 2016 Berlin World Cup and won all-around silver. She won gold in hoop, silver in ball and clubs, and bronze in ribbon. From July 8-10, she finished 5th all-around at the 2016 Kazan World Cup. She won silver in ribbon and bronze in ball and clubs.

From August 19-20, Melitina competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She qualified for the rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around final. She finished 5th overall after a mistake in her clubs routine.

Melitina had planned to keep competing, but on December 23, 2016, she announced her retirement from the sport.
