Melvin L. Stukes (born March 15, 1948 – died September 21, 2024) was an American politician. He served as a representative for the 44th legislative district in the Maryland House of Delegates. Before that, Stukes was a member of the Baltimore City Council for 13 years.

After high school, Melvin joined the U.S. Air Force. He served for three years until 1968. Later, he went to Morgan State University. In 1975, he earned a degree in business administration.

Time in City Council

Before joining the state government, Stukes was a member of the Baltimore City Council. He served on the council for 13 years, from 1991 to 2004. This role allowed him to help make decisions for the city of Baltimore.

In 2007, Melvin Stukes became a member of the Maryland House of Delegates. He represented the 44th legislative district. In this role, he helped create laws for the entire state of Maryland. He was also part of the House Ways and Means Committee. This committee handles important topics like taxes and spending. He was also a member of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland.

Later Years
