The Story of Memorial Park
How the Park Started
The land for Memorial Park was bought by a local group way back in 1918. Two brothers, Donald and Robert Cameron, helped get the land. The park was named after their family and to remember their father and uncle, Lieutenant Norman Cameron. He sadly passed away during the Gallipoli Campaign in a big war.
Changes Over Time
In 1934, a strong storm blew down the main grandstand. During the Second World War, the New Zealand Army used the park grounds.
In 2008, the park got a new name, Trust House Memorial Park. This was because of a sponsorship deal. Then, in 2015, the park got a big makeover! It cost about NZ $2.1 million. They added a new turf field, bright stadium lights, and improved the fences and pathways.
Who Plays at Memorial Park?
