Memphis is a small village located in Saunders County, Nebraska, in the United States. In 2020, the village had a population of 109 people.
History of Memphis
Memphis was founded in the 1880s. This happened when the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad built its railway line through the area. Many of the first people who settled here came from Memphis, Tennessee. Because of this, they decided to name the new village "Memphis."
The land where Memphis was built belonged to a person named Jack C. Owen. At first, people thought about naming the town "Owenville" after him. However, Mr. Owen did not want the town named after himself. So, "Memphis" became the second and final choice.
