Discovering the Brooks Museum's History
The main building of the Brooks Museum is very old and beautiful. It was designed in 1913 by James Gamble Rogers in a style called Beaux-Arts. This style uses grand, fancy designs. The building was a gift from Bessie Vance Brooks. She wanted to honor her husband, Samuel Hamilton Brooks.
Over the years, the museum has grown. A round part was added in 1955 by architect Everett Woods. In 1989, the museum got even bigger. This expansion added a new public entrance. It also created a large, three-story space where the old and new parts of the building connect.
