History of Menoken's Names

Menoken has had many different names over the years! It started as Seventeenth Siding in 1873. Soon after, it was called Blaine. This name honored James G. Blaine, a U.S. Senator from Maine.

When a post office opened in 1880, the town changed its name again. It became Clarke's Farm. This name was for C.J. Clarke, a farmer from Pittsburgh. Finally, in 1883, the town was named Menoken. This is an Indian name.

However, the Northern Pacific Railroad didn't like the new name. So, in 1891, they changed the name of their train station to Burleigh. Sometimes it was called Burleigh Station. Even today, the train siding still uses this older name.
