Menoken is a small community in North Dakota, United States. It's located in the southwestern part of Burleigh County. This area is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a place with a shared identity but without its own local government.
It is also a census-designated place (CDP). This is a special area created by the U.S. Census Bureau just for counting people. Menoken was first counted in the 2010 Census, where 70 people lived there. By the 2020 Census, the population had grown to 78 residents.
Menoken is found southeast of Bismarck. Bismarck is the main city and the county seat for Burleigh County. Menoken sits at an elevation of about 1,722 feet (525 meters) above sea level. The community also has its own post office with the ZIP code 58558.

History of Menoken's Names
Menoken has had many different names over the years! It started as Seventeenth Siding in 1873. Soon after, it was called Blaine. This name honored James G. Blaine, a U.S. Senator from Maine.
When a post office opened in 1880, the town changed its name again. It became Clarke's Farm. This name was for C.J. Clarke, a farmer from Pittsburgh. Finally, in 1883, the town was named Menoken. This is an Indian name.
However, the Northern Pacific Railroad didn't like the new name. So, in 1891, they changed the name of their train station to Burleigh. Sometimes it was called Burleigh Station. Even today, the train siding still uses this older name.
