The He-Man and the Masters of the Universe stories began in 1982. They started with a toy line from an American company called Mattel. Since then, these characters have appeared in many TV shows like He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, The New Adventures of He-Man, Masters of the Universe vs. The Snakemen, and Masters of the Universe: Revelation. They also starred in movies such as The Secret of the Sword, He-Man & She-Ra: A Christmas Special, and Masters of the Universe. These are the good guys who fight to protect Eternia from evil!
Classic Heroes (1982–1988)
These characters were some of the first toys released by Mattel.
Battle Cat / Cringer
Battle Cat is He-Man's brave and loyal armored tiger. When He-Man is in his normal form as Prince Adam, Battle Cat is a smaller, often scared, green tiger named Cringer. Cringer can talk and is usually afraid of everything. But when he transforms into Battle Cat, he becomes much bigger, stronger, and fearless.
In the 2002 TV series, Cringer sometimes acts like a normal kitten. But he also shows courage, like when he saved Prince Adam from falling down Snake Mountain.
Buzz-Off
Buzz-Off is a hero who looks like a humanoid bee. In the 2002 series, he is the captain of the defense force of Andreenos, his home. He is very loyal to Eternia's defenders and also to his Queen. Buzz-Off can hold a grudge, but he also helps make peace between different groups.
Clamp Champ
Clamp Champ is a Heroic Warrior who uses a big grabbing device as his main weapon. He was one of the first diverse characters in the original toy line. In the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line, his real name is Raenius. He started as King Randor's bodyguard and later became the new Man-At-Arms.
Extendar
Extendar is a mechanical hero who can extend his limbs. He was captured by the evil Hordak and turned into a cyborg. But he escaped before Hordak could control his mind. Extendar then vowed to free his friend from Hordak's control.
Fisto
Fisto is a very strong warrior with a large metal right hand. In the original series, he was a forest caretaker who later joined the fight against Skeletor. He was considered second in strength only to He-Man.
In the 2002 series, Fisto is Man-At-Arms' older brother. He joined the Masters of the Universe later than others. He used his giant metal fist to help free He-Man and his friends from a cave-in.
Stridor
Stridor is Fisto's heroic armored war horse. He is a faithful companion who helps Fisto in battles.
Gwildor
Gwildor is a small, dwarf-like inventor. He created the Cosmic Key, a special device that can open portals to other places. He first appeared in the Masters of the Universe movie.
He-Man / Prince Adam
He-Man is known as "the most powerful man in the universe." In most stories, he is the secret identity of Prince Adam. Prince Adam is the son of King Randor and Queen Marlena of Eternia. He often pretends to be lazy and carefree to hide his true identity.
When Prince Adam lifts his magical Sword of Power and shouts, "By the Power of Grayskull... I Have the Power!", he transforms into the mighty He-Man. He-Man has amazing superhuman strength. He can lift huge objects, break solid rock, and defeat almost any enemy. He is a brave warrior who always fights for justice. Only a few characters, like Man-At-Arms, Orko, and the Sorceress, know his secret.
In the 2002 series, Prince Adam is a teenager, much shorter and thinner than He-Man. But when he transforms, He-Man becomes much taller and more muscular.
King Randor
King Randor is the wise ruler of Eternia. He is the father of Prince Adam and Princess Adora. In the original series, he often worried about Adam's supposed laziness.
In the 2002 series, King Randor is shown as a strong and muscular leader. He was a brave captain during a time of trouble called the Great Unrest. He became king and often fights alongside He-Man and the Masters to protect Eternia.
Man-At-Arms
Man-At-Arms is one of He-Man's closest friends and allies. His real name is Duncan. He is Teela's adoptive father and creates most of the weapons and vehicles used by the Heroic Warriors. He lives at the Royal Palace and has a workshop there.
Man-At-Arms is also a mentor to Prince Adam. He is one of the few people who know that Prince Adam and He-Man are the same person. In the 2002 series, he is older and has a more military look. His left arm armor can even change into different weapons and tools.
Man-E-Faces
Man-E-Faces is a unique Heroic Warrior who can change his face. He has three faces: a human face, a monster face, and a robot face. His physical abilities change depending on the face he wears. Before becoming a hero, he was a famous actor. He is also a master of disguise.
Mekaneck
Mekaneck is a Heroic Warrior with a special telescoping mechanical neck. This neck allows him to stretch very high, making him excellent for spying and scouting. Man-At-Arms gave him this extending neck.
In the 2002 series, Mekaneck sometimes feels his power is not as good as others. But He-Man and the Masters help him understand how valuable his unique ability is.
Meteorbs
The heroic Meteorbs are members of the Rock People. They can change from meteors into animal forms. They are like pets to the heroic warriors. Some of them include:
- Astrolion – A heroic lion with great strength.
- Comet Cat – A heroic panther and the fastest Meteorb.
Moss Man
Moss Man is a plant-based hero who can control plants. He can make flowers grow or even create tidal waves of moss and vegetation.
In the 2002 series, Moss Man is a quiet guardian of Eternia's forests. He chooses to protect nature but always helps the Masters of the Universe when they need him. His help has been very important in many battles.
Orko
Orko is a magician from a parallel world called Trolla. On Eternia, his magic often goes wrong, leading to funny accidents. But on his home world, Trolla, he is a master magician.
Orko often tries to help, but his spells usually cause more trouble. In the 2002 series, his magic is more controlled. He lost his magic wand when he saved a young Prince Adam upon arriving in Eternia. Orko is one of the few characters who knows Prince Adam's secret.
Ram Man
Ram Man is a strong warrior who uses his head like a battering ram. He is very loyal to Eternia. He wears an armored helmet in both series. In the 2002 series, he is very large and one of the tallest heroes.
Roboto
Roboto is a heroic robot warrior. In the 2002 series, Man-At-Arms built him as a chess-playing robot. He was later upgraded to be a fighter to help defend the Eternian palace. Roboto's mechanical nature helps He-Man against magic, as he cannot be controlled by evil spells.
Rio Blast
Rio Blast is an Eternian gunslinger with hidden weapons in his body. He is a skilled fighter from the last frontier of Eternia.
Rock People
The Rock People, also known as Comet Warriors, are allies of He-Man and She-Ra. They come from the planet Geolon.
- Rokkon – A heroic young rock being who can turn into a boulder for defense.
- Stonedar – A rock being who can turn into a meteor for defense. He is the leader of the Comet Warriors.
Rotar
Rotar is the Master of Hyper-Spin. He was a guard at the Royal Palace. After being injured in battle, Man-At-Arms saved him with a special invention called the Gyro Machine.
Sorceress of Castle Grayskull
The Sorceress (real name Teela Na) is the magical guardian of Castle Grayskull. She is the one who gives Prince Adam the power to become He-Man. She can use many powers like telepathy, teleportation, and creating energy barriers. In the original series, she could not leave the castle for long.
In the 2002 series, the Sorceress is more powerful outside the castle. She is also Teela's mother, and Teela is destined to take her place one day, though Teela doesn't know this at first. The Sorceress protects the secrets and power of the Elders within Castle Grayskull.
Stratos
Stratos is a Heroic Warrior with the power of flight. He is the leader of the bird-people who live in the flying city of Avion. Stratos appeared regularly in the early episodes of the 1980s cartoon.
In the 2002 series, Stratos is an older and experienced member of the Masters. He helped bring peace between his people and the bee-people of Andreenos.
Snout Spout
Snout Spout is a heroic firefighter with a metal elephant-shaped head. He can squirt water from his trunk. He appears in the She-Ra cartoon and He-Man comic books.
Sy-Klone
Sy-Klone (real name Dash-Shel) is a Heroic Warrior with the power of hyper-spin. He can create whirlwinds and fly by spinning his body.
In the 2002 series, Sy-Klone is a mystic guardian of ancient stones. He is a very lawful and righteous character, resembling a samurai.
Teela
Teela is the Captain of the Royal Guard and Man-At-Arms' adopted daughter. She is a skilled combatant and trains Prince Adam. She is very outspoken and brave. Teela secretly admires He-Man and wishes Prince Adam was more like him, not knowing they are the same person.
In the 2002 series, Teela is a bit younger and more headstrong. She often comes close to figuring out He-Man's secret identity. In some comic stories, Teela is destined to become the new Sorceress of Grayskull.
Tytus
Tytus is a heroic giant warlord with long blonde hair. He helped He-Ro in ancient times. His weapon is a special "capture hammer" that he uses to grab enemies.
Zodac
Zodac is a Cosmic Enforcer. His true loyalty is often debated, but he usually tries to stay neutral. He helps both good and evil sides when needed, but leans towards justice. He tests He-Man to see if he can resist the temptation of great power.

These characters were introduced later, mainly in the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line.
King Grayskull
King D'vann Grayskull was an ancestor of He-Man and She-Ra. He ruled Eternia and lived in Castle Grayskull long before He-Man's time. He fought against King Hiss and Hordak. King Grayskull was mortally wounded in battle. His immense power then flowed into his sword and transformed his allies into the Council of Elders.
Queen Grayskull
Queen Veena Grayskull was King Grayskull's wife and a sorceress. She had powers similar to the later Sorceress of Castle Grayskull. After King Grayskull died, she promised to protect his power and find someone to take her place.
Battle Lion
Battle Lion is a green lion named Granger. He was King Grayskull's pet, similar to how Cringer is Prince Adam's pet. When empowered by King Grayskull, Granger became the mighty Battle Lion.
He-Ro
He-Ro was known as the most powerful wizard in the universe. He was a heroic cosmic warrior who fought against King Hiss and the Snake Men in ancient Eternia. His alter ego was a young man named Gray.
Eldor
Eldor was a great wizard and wise man. He was He-Ro's mentor in ancient Eternia and guarded the Book of Living Spells.
The Goddess of Eternia
After King Grayskull's death, the Power of the Universe was hidden in his castle. The Goddess of Eternia, a spirit guide, trained secret heroic guardians to protect the two halves of the Power Sword. Many of these warriors took the name "He-Man."
Wun-Dar
Wun-Dar was a warrior from an underground city. He rescued the Goddess of Eternia, who gave him special armor and a powerful ray gun. He was tasked with protecting the two halves of the Power Sword. Wun-Dar was also known as "The He-Man."
Fearless Photog
Fearless Photog was designed by a 12-year-old boy in a Mattel contest. He has the power to "focus in" on enemies and drain their strength. His chest plate shows silhouettes of his defeated foes.
Queen Marlena
Queen Marlena is the Queen of Eternia and the mother of Prince Adam (He-Man) and Princess Adora (She-Ra). In the 1980s series, she was an astronaut from Earth whose ship crashed on Eternia. She often suspects that her son is He-Man.
In the 2002 series, Queen Marlena is a wise queen who advises her husband and goes on diplomatic missions. She can also fight to defend herself.
Eternian Palace Guards
The Eternian Palace Guards are the brave soldiers who protect King Randor and Eternia. They are led by Teela and Man-At-Arms.
Sky High
Sky High is a former Eternian Palace Guard and an excellent test pilot. He helped Man-At-Arms improve the Jet Sleds and Wind Raiders for faster flights.
Hawke
Hawke is a female member of the Bird People. In the 2002 series, she is a loyal warrior to Stratos and a member of King Randor's council.
Kittrina
Kittrina is a cat-like warrior from the Vine Jungle. She is a member of the Cat Folk race. She helped He-Man and Teela recover a stolen statue and later worked to improve relations between humans and her people.
Slamurai
Slamurai is a heroic white-clad ninja from the planet Bashido. He is an enemy of Ninjor.
The Mighty Spector
The Mighty Spector (John Spector) is a time-traveling spy. He wears a special "vortex suit" and travels in a hovercraft called the "Spectormobile." He reports to King He-Man in the future.
Sir Laser-Lot
Sir Laser-Lot is a knight in enchanted blue armor with a laser sword. He was the strongest knight of King Grayskull in ancient times. He-Man brought him to the present to train the Royal Guards.
Dekker
Dekker was a mercenary who trained the palace guards and mentored Duncan (Man-At-Arms). He later retired to be a fisherman but still helps the Masters of the Universe.
Castle Grayskullman
Castle Grayskullman is a unique hero created from the very walls of Castle Grayskull itself. He was brought to life by He-Man and Teela's magic during a huge battle. He helped turn the tide of the fight with his dual swords.
Lord Dactys
Lord Dactys is the leader of the bat-like Speleans and a friend of King Randor. He became a member of King Randor's council.
Ceratus
Ceratus is the leader of the Caligars. He has a troubled relationship with his younger brother, Whiplash, who betrayed their people to Skeletor. Ceratus later joined King Randor's council.
Chief Carnivus
Chief Carnivus is a lion-like warrior chief of the Qadians, a tribe of cat-people. He decided to side with King Randor and He-Man in their fight against Skeletor. He also became a member of King Randor's council.
Kulatak Elder
The Kulatak Elder is the elderly leader of the snow monster-like Kulataks. He also became a member of King Randor's council.
Lizard Man
Lizard Man is a lizard-like humanoid. He is known for his speed and agility. He later got an action figure in the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line.
Oo-Larr
Oo-Larr is a jungle He-Man, a warrior from the wild parts of Eternia.
Plasmar
Plasmar is a warrior who gained plasma-blast energy powers after absorbing a special gem. He hunts down Snake Men Warriors.
Vikor
Vikor is known as the "He-Man of the North." He was chosen by the Goddess of Castle Grayskull to protect the Sword of He after King Grayskull's death.

Classic Villains (1982–1988)
Beast Man
Beast Man is a mandrill-like humanoid with orange and red fur. He is one of Skeletor's loyal followers. Beast Man can telepathically summon wild creatures of Eternia to help Skeletor's evil plans. He is often shown as clumsy.
In the 2002 series, Beast Man is much more fierce and dangerous. He is a skilled fighter and often rescues Skeletor and his other Evil Warriors.
Blade
Blade is a master swordsman and bounty hunter with an eyepatch. His sword skills can even match He-Man's. He appeared in the 1987 movie and mini-comics.
Blast-Attak
Blast-Attak is a robotic warrior built like a walking time bomb. After a certain time, he explodes and causes huge damage, then reforms unharmed.
Clawful
Clawful is a giant crab-like creature with large claws. In the 2002 series, he is strong but not very smart. Despite his mistakes, Evil-Lyn seems to like him.
Evil-Lyn
Evil-Lyn is a powerful sorceress, second only to Skeletor in magic. She is very cunning and often works with Skeletor for her own secret goals. She is not truly loyal to him.
In the 2002 series, more of her past is revealed. Her father is a powerful sorcerer called The Faceless One. This version of Evil-Lyn relies on her magical staff for her spells.
Evil Meteorbs
These Meteorbs are bad members of the Rock People. They can change from meteors into animal forms and are pets for the Evil Warriors. Some of them include:
- Rhinorb – An evil rhinoceros with a strong ramming horn.
- Orbear – An evil grizzly bear who bashes enemies with his claws.
Faker
Faker is an evil copy of He-Man, created by Skeletor. The toy version is blue with red hair. In the cartoon, he is a magical creation that looks just like He-Man, but with glowing eyes.
Jitsu
Jitsu is a warrior with a metal hand that can deliver powerful karate chops. He appeared in the 1980s cartoon as a supporting character who helped Skeletor.
Mer-Man
Mer-Man is a fish-man who controls sea life. He is often shown as the ruler of Eternia's undersea kingdom. He is one of Skeletor's main minions.
Night Stalker=
Night Stalker is an evil robotic steed. Some stories say he is Jitsu's horse, while others say he is a "reincarnation" of the heroic Stridor.
Ninjor
Ninjor is a ninja warrior who works for Skeletor. He was not in the original cartoon because his toy came out after the show ended.
Saurod
Saurod is a reptilian creature who can shoot sparks from his mouth. He appeared in the 1987 movie, helping Skeletor's minions.
Scare Glow
Scare Glow is a skeleton ghost warrior. His bones glow strongly, which can scare even the bravest opponents. He wears a purple cape and carries a scythe. He is known as the "Evil Ghost of Skeletor."
Scare Glow was one of the last figures released in the original toy line, making him quite rare. He never appeared in the original cartoon.
Screeech
Screeech is a barbaric bird that spies for Skeletor. In the 1983 cartoon, Screeech is a robot.
Skeletor
Skeletor is the main bad guy in the He-Man stories. He is He-Man's arch-enemy. In some stories, he is an evil demon from another dimension. In others, he was once a blue-skinned man named Keldor, who was King Randor's half-brother. After a terrible accident, Keldor's face was burned away, leaving him with a skull-like head, and he became Skeletor.
Skeletor is very powerful in magic and always tries to conquer Castle Grayskull to gain its ancient power. He is often seen with his evil feline companion, Panthor.
Panthor
Panthor is Skeletor's evil feline companion. He is a giant purple panther-like creature. Panthor is the evil version of Battle Cat and is usually by Skeletor's side.
Spikor
Spikor is a humanoid covered in spikes. He has a trident for a left arm and works as Skeletor's blacksmith. In the cartoon, Spikor sometimes had normal arms and sometimes his trident arm.
Stinkor
Stinkor is a skunk-like creature with magical control over his own terrible smell. His toy figure actually smelled like patchouli oil!
In the 2002 version, Stinkor was once a man named Odiphus. After an accident in Tri-Klops' lab, he gained his powers and joined Skeletor's group. His stench is so bad that even Skeletor and the other villains try to avoid it.
Trap Jaw
Trap Jaw is a weapons expert and a cyborg with a metal jaw that can bite through anything. In the 2002 series, he was originally a minion of Keldor named Kronis. After being badly injured, Skeletor rebuilt him with mechanical parts, turning him into Trap Jaw. He can attach different tools to his robotic arm.
Tri-Klops
Tri-Klops is an interdimensional bounty hunter and swordsman. He has three eyes on a rotating visor around his head, allowing him to see in any direction. His eyes have special abilities, like seeing through solid objects or in the dark. In both cartoons, his eyes can also shoot energy bolts.
In the 2002 version, he is Skeletor's irritable inventor, with some robotic features.
Twistoid
Twistoid is a robotic minion of Skeletor. He is a rival to Rotar, as Skeletor used Rotar's blueprints to create him.
Two Bad
Two Bad is an Evil Warrior with two heads that are always arguing with each other. In the 2002 version, they were originally two rival bounty hunters named Tuvar and Baddhra. Skeletor magically fused them into one being after they failed to work together.
Whiplash
Whiplash is an alligator-like creature whose tail is a powerful weapon. He is one of Skeletor's Evil Warriors. In the 2002 cartoon, he is the younger brother of King Ceratus and betrayed his people to join Skeletor.
Webstor
Webstor is a blue-skinned creature with spider-like abilities. He can spin webs and has multiple eyes. In the 2002 version, he is part of a spider-like race called Arachna. He initially served on Skeletor's Council of Evil.
Newer Villains (200X and Classics)
Mutant Warrior
The Mutant Warrior is a skeleton monster with a hollow chest that can be filled with slime. He was part of a playset.
Gygor
Gygor is a super-strong gorilla-like creature and the Lord of the Vine Jungle. He led an army against Castle Grayskull. He was later freed by Evil-Lyn to help Skeletor.
Icer
Icer is Skeletor's agent from the north. He can freeze people and turn into water to get through tight spaces. He does not like heat.
Fang Man
Fang Man is a dragon-like creature who can control other dragon-like creatures called Dragosaurs. He appeared in one episode of the 1980s cartoon.
Batros
Batros is a bat-like creature who lives on the dark side of Eternia. He sometimes helps Skeletor but is generally an independent villain.
Strongarm
Strongarm is a cyborg with a long metal right arm. His strength can rival He-Man's. He appeared in the 1980s cartoon.
Draego-Man
Draego-Man is a fire-breathing dragon man with flame weapons. He is one of Skeletor's newer Evil Warriors. He was once disgusted with humans and sided with Skeletor to enslave dragons.
Goat Man
Goat Man is a member of the G’hoat Men from the Northern Mountains. He is susceptible to Beast Man's hypnotic powers and is forced to serve him.
Anti-Eternia He-Man
The Anti-Eternia He-Man is a villainous version of He-Man from an alternate, evil Eternia. Skeletor summoned him to Eternia.
Hover Robots
Also known as Robot Knights, these are floating mechanical minions used by Skeletor. Their claw-like hands can spin like saw blades.
Karg
Karg is a half-human, half-bat minion of Skeletor with a hook for a left hand. He appeared in the 1987 live-action movie and commands Skeletor's Robot Centurions.
The Snake Men
The Snake Men are another evil group of characters. They tried to conquer Eternia in ancient times. After being imprisoned for centuries, they are released to cause trouble again.
Snake Men Characters
=Fang-Or
Fang-Or is a vicious Snake Man who can regrow his fangs after launching them like knives. He is also a mechanical expert.
King Hiss
King Hiss is the ruler of the Snake Men. He can shed his human-like skin to become a twisting mass of five snake heads from the waist up. In the 2002 series, he has powerful magic. King Hiss was defeated by Hordak and later sealed away beneath Snake Mountain by Zodac. He was eventually released by Kobra Khan.
Kobra Khan
Kobra Khan is a cobra-type Snake Man. He can spray sleeping gas or, in the 2002 series, acid from his mouth or hood. He is very devoted to King Hiss and helped free him.
Lord Gr'asp
Lord Gr'asp is a viper-type Snake Man with a crushing crab-like claw. He is a master strategist and formed alliances with Horde Prime.
Megator
Megator was a green giant from ancient Eternia. He served Hordak and was later brought back to life by King Hiss to serve the Snake Men.
Rattlor
Rattlor is one of King Hiss' generals. He is a rattlesnake-type Snake Man with an extending neck and rattling tail. He appeared in the She-Ra: Princess of Power series as a member of the Horde. In the 2002 series, he is the General of the Snake Men army.
Snake Face
Snake Face is a gorgon-type Snake Man. Snakes extend from his face, chest, and shoulders. He can "petrify" opponents, turning them to stone, just like Medusa from Greek myths.
Sssqueeze
Sssqueeze is an anaconda-type Snake Man with very long, snake-like arms. In the 2002 series, the palms of his hands become snake-like heads when his arms extend.
Terroar
Terroar is a sound being who was exiled for his evil deeds. He can unleash a devastating roar. He later sided with the Snake Men.
Tung Lashor
Tung Lashor is a python-type Snake Man with a super-long extending tongue. He appeared in the She-Ra: Princess of Power series as a member of the Horde. In the 2002 series, his tongue would often get cut off but would grow back.
Snake Man Soldiers
King Hiss has a huge army of slithering minions who do his bidding. These generic warriors were featured in the 2002 series.
Snake Troopers
The Snake Troopers are Snake Men Warriors who were turned into cyborgs and linked to a central computer brain. They are used in Lord Gr'asp's plans to team up the Snake Men with the Horde.

Hydron is an undersea commander and the captain of the Starship Eternia.
Flipshot
Flipshot is a space pilot from the cloud city of Levitan. He is also known as Icarius.

Mara is an assistant to Master Sebrian and an ambassador from the planet Primus. She eventually becomes a leader of the Galactimytes.

Flogg
Flogg is the leader of the Evil Mutants of Denebria. He commands the Mutant Armada. Skeletor made an alliance with Flogg to help him take over Primus.
Slush Head
Slush Head is a clumsy amphibious mutant with cybernetic tentacles. He is Flogg's second-in-command and co-pilot of the Mutant Mothership.
Optikk
Optikk is a cyborg with a single giant eyeball for a head.
Karatti
Karatti is a green-skinned mutant with deadly martial arts skills.

Count Marzo
Count Marzo is a powerful sorcerer who has lived for thousands of years. He wants to become King of Eternia. He often uses subtle schemes and tricks people into helping him.
In the 2002 series, Count Marzo is a barbaric wizard whose powers come from a magenta crystal. He helps Evil-Lyn in her plans.
Evilseed
Evilseed is an evil plant man who can control plants. In the 1980s series, He-Man and Skeletor had to team up to stop him. In the 2002 series, he is a rival to Moss Man.
Prahvus
Prahvus was an evil warlord with horns and blue markings. He tried to conquer Eternia during a time called the Great Unrest. He was defeated by the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull.
Shokoti
Shokoti is a very powerful undead sorceress. She has a demonic appearance with horns and pale skin. She nearly defeated He-Man in her only appearance in the 1980s cartoon.
Nepthu
The evil sorcerer Nepthu appeared in the Filmation episode "Temple of The Sun." He used to work for Count Marzo.
Geldor
Geldor is a barbarian who appeared in the minicomic "The Secret Liquid of Life."
Plundor
Plundor is an evil rabbit-man driven by greed. He conquered the planet Trannis, turning its lush environment into a wasteland to profit from its resources.
Lodar
Lodar is a main villain from the minicomic "Slave City!"
