He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2002 TV series)

The New Adventures of He-Man is an exciting animated TV show from America and Canada. It first aired in 1990. This series was made to continue the story of the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon. Just like the first show, each episode ends with a PSA, which is a short message teaching important lessons.

This series was the last part of the original Masters of the Universe story for a long time. The whole story was later restarted with new versions of the characters.

Story of the Show

The series begins with He-Man, the brave hero who protects the planet Eternia. He is called to a new, futuristic planet called Primus. His mission is to defend Primus from the evil Mutants who live on the nearby planet Denebria.

But He-Man's old enemy, Skeletor, follows him to Primus. Skeletor quickly teams up with the Mutants. Together, they plan to take over the entire universe. He-Man joins forces with a group called the Galactic Guardians. They fight hard to protect Primus and its important power sources from Skeletor and the Mutants' constant attacks.

Main Characters

  • He-Man/Prince Adam (voiced by Doug Parker as Adam, Garry Chalk as He-Man) - He is the main hero. He protects Eternia and is called to Primus to fight the Evil Mutants. When on Primus, Adam changes into He-Man by saying, "By the power of Eternia, I have the Power!"
  • Skeletor (voiced by Campbell Lane) - He is He-Man's biggest enemy. Skeletor accidentally ends up on Primus. He makes a deal with Flogg, the Mutant leader. Mini-Comics Story Differences

The New Adventures toy line came with mini-comics that told a slightly different story from the TV show.

  • In the comics, when Prince Adam and Skeletor travel to Primus, Adam transforms into He-Man right in front of Skeletor. This reveals his secret identity, and he stays as He-Man permanently, no longer changing back to Prince Adam.
  • The "explosion" from this transformation hurts Skeletor, forcing him to become a cyborg to survive.
  • Also, in the comics, Skeletor does not pretend to be on Flogg's side. Instead, he defeats Flogg and takes full control of the Evil Mutants himself.

The TV show kept the idea of Adam transforming into He-Man because it was a very popular part of the original series. However, the magic words are a bit different. Instead of "By the power of Grayskull...I have the power!", He-Man says "By the power of Eternia...I have the power!"
