Meritxell Budó i Pla (born on March 8, 1969) is a Spanish politician and a pharmacist. She comes from Catalonia, a region in Spain. Meritxell Budó served as the Minister of the Presidency and the Government Spokesperson for Catalonia from 2019 to 2021. Currently, she is the mayor of La Garriga, a town in Catalonia.

Early Life and Education
Meritxell Budó was born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. She moved to La Garriga when she was six years old and has lived there ever since. She studied at the University of Barcelona, where she earned a degree in pharmacy. She also completed a master's degree in the pharmaceutical industry. In 2002, she joined a political party called the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia (CDC).
Political Career Highlights
Before becoming a politician, Budó worked as a technical director in the veterinary pharmaceutical industry. This means she helped manage the making of medicines for animals.
Becoming a Local Leader
Meritxell Budó first became involved in local politics in La Garriga. In 2006, she was appointed to the town's municipal council. A municipal council is like a local government that makes decisions for the town.
She was elected as mayor of La Garriga in 2007. She held this position for a short time before being replaced in March 2008. However, she was elected mayor again in 2011 and served until March 2019. She was re-elected as mayor of La Garriga in June 2023 and continues to serve in this role.
Regional and National Roles
From 2015 to 2019, Budó was a member of the provincial deputation for Barcelona. This is a group that helps manage affairs for the larger area around Barcelona.
She also served as a councillor for social policies on the Vallés Oriental County Council from 2011 to 2015. This role involved working on social issues in the county. She was also the president of the Catalan Development Cooperation Fund. This fund helps with development projects.
In March 2019, Meritxell Budó was given two very important jobs in the government of President Quim Torra. She became the Minister of the Presidency and the Government Spokesperson for Catalonia. As Minister of the Presidency, she helped manage the president's office. As Government Spokesperson, she was the main person who talked to the public and the media about the government's decisions. She held these roles until 2021.
In July 2020, she joined a new political party called Together for Catalonia.
